Peter Newman: Subterranean Blues
CNB Gallery
24 November 2015 – 14 February 2016
Descending the stairs to the subterranean, blue-painted cellar
that is CNB Gallery, visitors are met with an unlikely series of photographs:
eight large-scale, circular prints, each offering a periscopic vista up towards
the sky. Forming part of Peter Newman’s Metropoly
project, these images take viewers to cities around the world – London, New
York, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Paris – capturing contemporary buildings, Modernist
structures and century-old churches alike, seen from below, as if by an ant, alongside
trees, clouds and, in the centre, always, a glimpse of sky.
