Those of us lucky enough to live or work amongst
architectural splendour all too often become blind to it; it becomes part of
our daily backdrop. This is what struck photographer Candida Höfer (born 1944)
about the Northern Italians when, after years of documenting interiors of
beauty in the Central and Southern regions, she moved north a couple of years
ago. Her current exhibition at Ben Brown Fine Arts in Mayfair showcases 13 new
and previously unseen photographs documenting the region’s architectural
treasures: the interiors of palaces, opera houses, libraries and theatres.
